Jayluck Club

Coincidences are not construed until you string them together. One event triggers awareness of their presence  and then the fun begins. On my fourth trip across King Street, I ultimately noticed the phenomenon.

Ordinarily, there is a wait when you jaywalk for one or both sides of traffic to pass. For some reason, whenever I stepped out, I could walk the complete width of the street without pause. I recalled that each of my previous trips across were also uninterrupted. The timing between the cars was so perfect I felt blessed with some kind of jaywalking superpower. I got so confident on my sixth crossing, I went without stopping at all.

Today my power was gone. I waited and waited, then finally went to the crosswalk. My membership card for the Jayluck Club had expired.
