May the Force Be With You

Eavesdropping from a game of D and D in a college dorm room.

DM “I’m telling you, it’s a theological fairytale. C.S. Lewis woulda loved it.”

Player “What do you mean? There’s nothing about ‘hokey religions’ in it.”

DM “The force, dummy. It’s a metaphor for God. Why do you think the movie was so popular?”

Player “Because of all the new effects.”

DM “True, but also because there’s a whole secular generation who need something to believe in.”

Player “Something to believe in? I don’t know, man. You analyze stuff too much."

DM “C’mon, ‘May the force be with you’? It’s like a mantra or prayer.”

Player “Shut-up and tell me which die to roll.”
