Starbloon
Word-coining of the week.
Starbloon - a twinkling traveler reminding you of the beauty of creation.
Challenging myself to identify the man-made, I listen, lying on a bed of pine needles with a stump for a pillow. A hidden airplane drones on in muffled thunder. The ever-flowing highway produces rhythmic waves with marinary frequency. Coiled barbed-wire hangs rusty on the stump of a branch, its posts vanished into the forest humus. The scents are olfactory endorsements for the outdoors and the taste of precipitation peppers the air with tingly electricity of an approaching rainstorm.
My 10-year-old walking stick, Sticky (yes, I know it is a lame name, but a toddler gave it to me) is the only tactile representative caressing my hand. I’m all the way to the bottom of the trail before I realize what I’m walking on is man-made. This isn’t a deertrack, it’s a logging road. Our creations get overgrown with complacency. We need to dust them off, prune and oil, so we can learn from them.
Soaking in the silence and serenity of solitude during the final stretch, I am brought up short to discover a twinkling traveler has landed where I passed two hours ago. Definitely man-made, it gives me a chuckle. I have a strong connection to the color blue and the star shape. I feel I am being reminded that all we create has beauty in some form.
