The Specialist
In this fast-paced world of millions, how do you stand out? What is the fingerprint you leave? In order to define myself as unique, I must look at what I do that no one else does. I have long thought mine was creative in some way, but received a revelation yesterday.
I had pondered this thought for days. Surely it had something to do with art or writing. Then, for the zillionth time, I reached for the toilet paper in a restaurant bathroom only to find the empty cardboard roll dangling from the receptacle. Brief panic receded when I discovered a half-used roll balanced on the handicapped railing at my left elbow.
Replacing the roll as I have done more times than I can remember in my life, I recognized my individuality. What makes me truly unique is the fact that I must be the only human in existence who knows how to operate the spring-loaded rod holding the roll. What other explanation can there be? This is my niche, my specialty.
