Alien Pods Are Here

This new growth has a look

well,

if you open up a book,

to name,

identify,

how would Michaux classify?

These shoots

whose tendrils topical

mimic something from the tropical.

Their shapes do not allude

to final form after the food

and sun and rain

have completed their quatrains.

Isosceles spikes

showing rain-forest hues

will careen into green

with chlorophyll use.

Their contrast will lessen.

They’ll settle and still

with leaves fully grown

into warm Summer’s fill.

Then all heed the call

to shut down,

crisp and Fall.

So, stop and see

the growth in things

else you’ll have to wait

until the next Spring.
